William Tang, a principal research physicist at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) for five decades and a Lecturer with the Rank of Professor in the Department of Astrophysical Sciences at Princeton University, has won the 2024 Sidney Fernbach Memorial Award from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Computer Society. The IEEE is the world’s largest technical professional organization “dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity.” The award recognizes his “pioneering contributions to fusion energy research accelerated by high-performance computing and deep learning.”
