Jenny Greene, Professor of Astrophysical Sciences, has been awarded the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring, administered by the National Science Foundation (NSF) on behalf of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.  This award recognizes Greene’s leadership of the Prison Teaching Initiative (PTI): quoting from the citation: "She shares her conviction that education is a human right and the absolute joy that comes from mentoring passionate adult learners in the prison context.”

Greene is currently the Faculty Director of PTI at Princeton University.  On winning the award, Greene reflects “This award shines a light on all the brilliant scholars currently incarcerated in this country, and the hope that a college education can bring to them and their families. I am so grateful for the bravery and vision of every incarcerated student that embarks on their own college journey.”

Jenny is the second person associated with Princeton University to receive the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring.  Jill Knapp, also of our department, was recognized in 2016 for her work with PTI and for broadening inclusion within the department.

Congratulations, Jenny!
